KYB to Hold the Third “Сливи за смет” Plogging Event at the Early Christian Monastery in Djanavare
17 November 2025
The international development corporation KYB is continuing its year-long cycle of sport-and-environment initiatives “Сливи за смет” in Varna. The third plogging event will take place on 28 November at the site of the Early Christian monastery in the Djanavare area — one of the region’s most significant archaeological and cultural landmarks.
This time, participants will help clean the surroundings of Bulgaria’s historical heritage: the ruins of an Early Christian basilica dating from the 5th–7th centuries, located in the Borovets Park near the Asparuhovo district. This site is important both for Bulgarian history and tourism, yet it is vulnerable to littering and neglect.
As always, the initiative will follow the plogging format — an active walk combined with waste collection. Participants will move along a route around the archaeological complex and the adjacent green zones, collecting waste that harms the natural and cultural landscape and undermines efforts to preserve the ancient architecture.
As with the previous two “Сливи за смет” events, all collected waste will be sent for sorting and recycling.
The third plogging event builds on the work already underway:
- during the first two events, participants cleared popular tourist locations in Varna of more than 700 kg of waste;
- routes covered the Golden Sands Nature Park and the coastline from Galata to Pasha Dere;
- cleaned areas became safe and pleasant again for residents and visitors.
The event in Djanavare will highlight that caring for a city means not only creating new spaces but also protecting places that carry cultural memory and identity.
Don't miss this opportunity to participate — register by filling out a short form: https://forms.gle/7fPJZvY69rWB8UFx7
As before, all participants will receive a symbolic “plum” patch — a reference to the Bulgarian tale “Сливи за смет” and a mark of personal contribution to Varna’s cleanliness. Accumulated “plums” will count throughout the full 12-month cycle, after which KYB will present a special award to the most active volunteer.
Detailed information on the meeting time, starting point and participation format will be published soon on KYB’s official channels — stay tuned.
